Orvieto 2010

Orvieto Tower View Pic

In June of 2009, a group of students, staff, and faculty from Fuller Theological Seminary sojourned to the quaint hilltop town of Orvieto, Italy. There the group lived and studied as a community in the historic San Paolo Monastery. The program included daily course gatherings, trips to a variety of medieval and artistic sites in Orvieto, as well as day trips to Assisi and Siena. By offering these classes in Italy, the students were immersed in Italian culture, both present and historical, giving them the opportunity to engage with the course material holistically through sound, touch, taste, smell, and sight.

This tradition will continue in the Summer of 2010. Two courses will be offered this summer - Medieval Art and Theology and The Medieval World and the Digital Age. The courses will begin the morning of June 20 and run through Saturday, July 3. A more detailed schedule with the course ECDs will be forthcoming.

If you are interested in going please contact us via email () or by phone (626.304.3724). We will be opening up these courses and spots in the monastery to auditors this year. Space is limited and the deadline for signing up is fast approaching.

This is a really commendable endeavour that should be emulated by spiritual leaders and theology students worldwide. Spending tranquil and peaceful time in deep meditation as well as spending worthwhile gatherings and at the same time getting in touch with you inner soul. I have read in academic essays as well as research papers I have written with the help of colleagues in a Seminary School for Young Christians, getting in touch with nature will get you closer to God because you will feel the sheer magnificence of His work just by enjoying the simple and calming pleasures of nature. And nothing beats Italy because of the rustic and pleasantly peasant feel of this beautiful country. Aside from the mouth-watering food, friendly people and the breathtaking sights, its natural and raw beauty brings peace and serenity to our hearts. It also makes us more open to the voice of God and nature.
