Two upcoming Arts conferences
The International Arts Movement holds their annual conference in New York City from February 26-28. It is held at the BMMC Tribeca Arts Center. This year’s theme is GENERATIVE CREATIVITY: TRANSFORMING THE CULTURAL RIVER. Highlights include a collaboration between Nihonga painter Mako Fujimura, pianist Jerzy Sapieyevski and chef Miguel Sanchez Romera. Reel Spirituality Co-Director, Craig Detweiler, be doing a workshop on Friday afternoon on “Why Movies Move Us: Thinking Like a Filmmaker.” The International Arts Movement and Mako Fujimura have been at the forefront of renewal efforts in Tribeca following 9/11. This art encounter is yet another way to rebuild community, “transforming the cultural river.”
In April, Detweiler be at the Transforming Culture conference in Austin, Texas. It brings together arts friendly pastors with faith-fueled practitioners. Can the embrace of creativity reenergize the Christian church? Keynote speakers include Andy Crouch, Jeremy Begbie, Barbara Nicolosi, John Witvliet, and Eugene Peterson. The event is hosted by David Taylor of Hope Chapel in Austin. We’ll be screening Purple State of Mind at the Alamo Drafthouse on March 31st, the night before the conference opens.
