A First!

In the world of training people for worship and music related ministries, some areas of skill related to technology are a must!  The Fred Bock Institute of Music has been able to install the first of what we plan will be several music/media workstations.  The workstation features a new iMac computer, speakers, printer, keyboard, and software.  The workstation will be used to learn software related to music notation and sequencing, demonstrate video products for use in worship, and download other materials to acquaint students with resources available for use in creative worship planning.  We're grateful for the special donation that made this workstation possible.

A BIG Announcement!

On February 16, 2008, the Fred Bock Institute of Music will host the 2nd Forming Hearts, Creating Arts: Developing Worship Leadership worship conference.  We're very excited to announce the special guests who will guide, inspire and teach us during the day.

OgilvieOriginally from Ireland, Keith and Kristyn Getty will present their unique modern hymnody during our times of worship.  Keith is most familiar to many as the co-writer of the popular worship song, In Christ Alone.  The music that Keith and Kristyn present will provide a great new resource for congregational worship.  Their spirit of servanthood and spiritual focus will rise to the surface during our day together.  We are so excited to have Keith and Kristyn join us for the day!Ogilvie

Secondly, the renowned British composer and conductor John Rutter will present some of his best choral music, along with his personal comments behind the writing of each piece.  Having been knighted for his major contribution to music and arts in Great Britain, Sir John will be in Los Angeles as the guest conductor for the concert on the following evening, February 17, presented by the Mark Thallander Foundation.

OgilvieAnd, as if those people were not enough, we will cap off the day with a wonderful biblical exposition of the Gospel of John, chapter four, from Dr. Lloyd John Ogilvie.  Dr. Ogilvie was for many years the pastor of Hollywood Presbyterian Church, and followed that ministry with several years as Chaplain of the U.S Senate.  His study and thoughts related to worshiping in spirit and in truth are sure to inspire us in our worship ministries.

Plan now to join us in Pasadena on February 16th!  More information will follow, but put it on your calendar now!

Hawaii Credential Cohort - Module #2

Ed Willmington and Todd Johnson (not pictured) recently taught two intense days with 10 people who are a part of the Worship Leadership Credential cohort in Honolulu.  The teaching centered around understanding the church year calendar and how creative worship planning can be enhanced and expanded through that knowledge.  Other sessions related to the personality of the worship leader, spiritual formation disciplines, and online resources for worship planning.  The 10 people in the credential program are all involved in worship ministries in their churches in Hawaii.  They are a wonderful group to be with - and very eager learners!
