What if I'm too busy to join a Micah Group?

Who is in a Micah Group?

Micah Groups are composed of 10-12 men and women from diverse denominational, theological, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic contexts who are currently involved in some form of active ministry. Members come from all ranges of experience and education, but all have a heart for worship, preaching, and justice and are seeking to grow as empowered, wise leaders.  Each group is guided by two co-facilitators who have been trained by the Ogilvie Institute. Current Micah Group members and facilitators come from more than 30 denominations and organizations, including African Methodist Episcopal, Anglicans, Assemblies of God, Baptists, Covenant, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Mennonites, Methodists, Presbyterians, Reformed, Roman Catholics, Salvation Army, Vineyard, as well as non-profit organizations such as Campus Crusade and InterVarsity, several colleges/universities/seminaries, and more.   

Can I join a Micah Group even if I do not preach regularly?

Yes! Vocational diversity is welcome in each Micah Group. Current members include senior pastors, associate pastors, solo pastors, rectors, priests, chaplains, spiritual directors, worship leaders, youth directors, church planters, bi-vocational ministers, and other ministry leaders. 

What do Micah Groups do?

Each group gathers for worship, prayer, reflection, and courageous conversation related to the First Things curriculum, which members explore in their own time between meetings through the Ogilvie Institute's specially designed eReader. The curriculum includes essays developed by Dr. Mark Labberton and Ogilvie Institute staff; videos from a diverse array of ministry leaders in areas of worship, preaching, and justice; and worship resources with art, music, prayers, and litanies to help inspire integration of the Micah Groups themes in your personal and corporate worship settings. Where do Micah Groups meet?

Nearly 100 Micah Groups have been formed across the US and Canada, as well as internationally. Click here for a map of all Micah Groups to date. New groups begin each January/February and September/October. Click here to see where groups are currently accepting new members. Each individual group determines the location of their meetings. Many groups choose to rotate hosting of meetings at each member's ministry location, and others choose one central location.

When would we meet?

Micah Groups meet monthly or bi-monthly for a total of 12 times over the course of 1-2 years, with a schedule determined by each group. The first and last meetings are one-day retreats, and the 10 regular meetings in between are 3-4 hours. Many groups choose to meet over breakfast or lunch, and some schedule additional social gatherings for fellowship with spouses and family members.

What does it cost?

First, it may be helpful to know that the full cost-per-member of the Micah Groups program is about $1500. (This is roughly equivalent to the cost of a 10-week Fuller Seminary course.) Thanks to generous underwriting from donors who believe very strongly in the Micah Groups vision, the per-member expense has been reduced to $700. Of that amount, we ask members to contribute only $400, and the Ogilvie Institute continually fundraises to cover the remaining program costs. We know that even this greatly reduced cost is more than some members can afford, so we are very happy to grant scholarships in order to make the Micah Group experience available to leaders from all socioeconomic contexts.
