Thoughts from Ed...
2007 Is Here!
I’m sure there’s been a study done on how long it takes to stop signing the old year date and getting the new one into our writing habits. Whatever it is, are you there yet? I like to think of each new year as just another example of how God allows us to start over – to look more forward and not so much back. That’s a great gift, and looking into 2007 is a great gift from God! For Mary Lou and I, 2006 represented lots of changes – some of which are still ongoing, but we do look forward to what 2007 will bring. As we start 2007, we thank you for your prayers and support in so many ways. The Fred Bock Institute of Music is running in many great directions. Please continue to pray for further shaping of the most effective ways to reach people with the exciting challenge of maximizing God’s gift of music – whether in the pew, professional musician or worship leader – for His glory!

Forming Hearts, Creating Art
The two-minute warning is now sounding! That means that our day-long seminar, Forming Hearts, Creating Art, is now just a month away. There is still time for you to register, and NOW is the time! Once again, Bruce Leafblad will be helping us biblically define worship and how it works. Paul Salamunovich will use the choir from Church of Our Saviour to help understand how to effectively work with voices. Ray and Anne Ortlund will guide our devotional time. There will be one period of time with a choice to either observe a massed children’s choir rehearsal with Paul Salamunovich, or attend a question/answer session regarding pastor/musician staff relationships. The day will end with a time of worship and commitment of our lives in worship and music ministry. Don’t miss this opportunity! We want this day to form hearts for ministry, while increasing your skill to do the work of ministry as well. Register here
"Shoes Off" Worship Student Worship Leader Lunch
A new ministry of FBIM begins this month. We who have the privilege and responsibility to lead and guide people into God’s presence need prayer support, personal interactions and friendships, and further tools to help us be effective with our skills. The holy responsibility should remind us, as with Moses at the burning bush, to take off our shoes since we are on the Fuller campus for students who are studying for worship ministry leadership – and many are already doing that. Our January special guests will be Lois Bock and Mary Lou Willmington. Having spent their lives married to people in church worship and music ministry, they are well equipped to share some of the important things they have discovered to be important with the students who attend. Please pray for Lois and Mary Lou – as well as those who attend these "Shoe Off" lunches.
Rejoice! The Lord Is King
Seeing and hearing 700+ musicians is an experience that doesn’t come along often, but that very experience can be yours on February 18, 2007 through the ministry of The Mark Thallander Foundation. Mark is one of the gifted organists and arrangers of our time, and an encouraging friend of FBIM. Unknowing, you may have heard Mark play, since he has played major organs everywhere, including many years in association with the Crystal Cathedral. In 2003, Mark was involved in a tragic accident that resulted in the loss of one of his arms. You can read his story at www.markthallander.com. Mark has turned his trying circumstances into wonderful opportunities to gather musicians to do wonderful things together, such as the concert, Rejoice! The Lord Is King. To find out more about the concert, you may go to www.markthallanderfoundation.org. Don’t miss it!
