Hymns Are In!

Hymns Are In!I was privileged to be a guest conductor of the choir and orchestra at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena a few weeks ago. The whole concert was based around hymns – past and future. The concert also featured instrumental music based on familiar hymn tunes. It was a wonderful evening that incorporated some of the hymns that are well-loved from the past, but also had a band that led some modern hymns that are destined to be a part of the church’s literature for the foreseeable future. Some of those modern hymns were written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend from the UK. If you’d like to hear some of those great modern hymns, take some time to look at Getty Music. Hymns are in!!!

New Choral Series

New Choral SeriesOne of the projects at the Fred Bock Institute of Music has been the creation of a new series of choral pieces that provide unique and creative resources for corporate worship. This series is a partnership between the Fred Bock Institute of Music, the Brehm Center, and Fred Bock Music Company. One of the special features of the new series is that there will be free resources on the Fred Bock Music website that provide historical and spiritual context for the piece, as well as composer insights, and suggestions for how to creatively use the piece in the worship service. The first three releases in this series will have the unique feature with an option of congregational involvement built into the choral piece. Subsequent series will have other creative options. Ed Willmington will oversee the development of the series.
