Heimburger-Robinson Scholarship
The Brehm Center is now accepting applications for the Heimburger-Robinson scholarship to be awarded for fall 2010 to an incoming Music and Ministry student. The Heimburger-Robinson scholarship is specifically for students applying to the Music and Ministry focus established by the Fred Bock Institute of Music under the Worship, Theology, and the Arts emphasis. Applicants can either be enrolled in the Master of Divinity or Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry degrees.
Applicants should submit an application and three letters of recommendation, including one from a person with knowledge of their demonstrated leadership and music ability, to the Student Financial Services (SFS) office on the third floor of the Student Service Center at 250 N. Madison Avenue. All application materials must be received by SFS by 5pm on April 16, 2010 for your application to be considered by the Brehm Center selection committee.
Important: In addition to completing and submitting the application for the Heimburger-Robinson scholarship, you must complete and submit the SFS 2010-2011 Financial Aid Application and any necessary materials associated with it. Applicants are also required to take a music theory test and submit audition material. Click here to download the music theory test. The theory test and audition material should be submitted electronically to Ed Willmington, Director of the Fred Bock Institute of Music (). You may choose to mail in audition material in the form of a CD or DVD. You can also arrange a live audition with Ed Willmington on the Pasadena campus if you are in the area. The audition material should include at least two pieces of music that you feel best showcases your musical gifts.
Purpose
In 2008, a scholarship was established through the generous gift of Barbary and Roy Heimburger. The Heimburger-Robinson scholarship was founded to honor the memory of their dear friend Fred Bock. It is designed to provide scholarship assistance to Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry and Master of Divinity candidates enrolled in authorized Music and Ministry curricula developed by the Fred Bock Institute of Music in partnership with Fuller Theological Seminary and the Brehm Center for Worship, Theology, and the Arts. Candidates for this scholarship will show exceptional promise for full-time church, academic, missions or arts related vocations. Furthermore, the scholarship is designed to encourage and invest in leaders who will be actively engaged in the revitalization of worship in the Church through practice and conversation, and who will contribute to the research on the role of worship and the arts in life, thought, and the community.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE RECIPIENTS
Recipients of the scholarships are full-time students who most closely meet the following criteria (as well as the standard requirements established by their respective schools):
- Enrollment full-time
- Enrolled in the focus in the Music and Ministry focus under the Worship, Theology, and the Arts emphasis (MATM or MDiv) approved by the Brehm Center Academic Director
- Demonstrated academic excellence
- Demonstrated musical talent and ability
- Demonstrated mature commitment to Jesus Christ
- Demonstrated financial need
SELECTION
Heimbuger-Robinson Scholars are selected by a committee chosen by the Executive and Academic Directors of the Brehm Center for Worship, Theology, and the Arts, in collaboration with the Office of Student Financial Services and in accordance with the seminary’s policies and practices governing all student financial aid.
AMOUNT OF AWARDS
The Scholarship includes half tuition and standard enrollment fees (including parking but excluding insurance) for the term or normal years of study and will be renewed each year until the degree is completed (or until tuition is no longer needed), as long as the scholar remains in good standing and funds are available. If there is an outstanding candidate with greater financial need, the selection committee will have the discretion to award a larger percentage of tuition, up to and including full tuition.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCEDURE

First, applicants should complete the online financial aid application available through Student Financial Service (SFS) office including all necessary materials required by the SFS office. Second, applicants should submit an application and three letters of recommendation, including one from a person with knowledge of their demonstrated leadership and musical ability. Third, the applicants must submit a completed music theory test and audition material to the Brehm Center (see above for details).
